And at $800 a year, up front, with no guarantees it is a hard leap to take.

They do however have what they call "market days" where they sell surpluss produce at the farm. Though as they are increasing the number of CSA shares this year it sounds like the market days will be much fewer, and further between with less selection than in past years. Not to mention while the drop off location is relatively close to us, the farm is an hours drive (with good traffic..).

I have never seen purple green beans, either. Did they taste like normal greenbeans?Brandihttp://mysnapshotsnippets.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1093984447936088980.post-650809525591940602011-01-14T10:32:51.587+00:002011-01-14T10:32:51.587+00:00Would the CSA let you have a trial run? Even if it was for one week, that would give you an idea of what it's like "living with a box."
We've had several varities that we've never seen. There was purple greenbeans, purple broccoli, and pointed cabbage. The cabbage was SO strange, I don't think I had any of it...I'll see if I can find a photo. Unfortunately ours requires up front payment for the year and offers very little fruit so I wasn't sure if it would be worth it. We would also have to pick up at a nearby drop location vs. having it delivered. Then again we would get all kinds of farm fresh veggies (some I have never even heard of before!) which taste so much better than what you can find in the local grocery store.Brandihttp://mysnapshotsnippets.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1093984447936088980.post-71150413202017601022011-01-07T20:46:27.307+00:002011-01-07T20:46:27.307+00:00We're living in England right now and veg boxe...We're living in England right now and veg boxes are very big here. Once a week we get a delivery of organic fruit and veg from a farm about 20 miles away. They also offer milk, eggs, flour...lots of other things they have outsourced to other local farmers! It's genius actually. Oh, and delivery is free- Score!
